Abstract:

Since the discovery of the phenomenon of Osseointegration by Pr. PI Branemark the use of dental implants has permeated all phases of dentistry. Contemporary orthodontic practice may involve implant treatment in the following areas:

  1. Facilitation of the treatment planning process, e.g. opening the spaces for profile considerations

  2. Prosthetic replacement of missing teeth with presurgical orthodontic alignment to optimize implant placement

  3. The use of intraoral implants as stationary anchorage
